When I first dreamed about building our house in Aegina, I never imagined I would rent it out.

This house was meant for my family. For our weekends. For our summers. For my children to create memories that would stay with them forever. That was always the dream.

But as the project moved forward, reality arrived too. There was the loan. The unexpected expenses. The upgrades I hadn't originally planned for. And let's just say that my carefully prepared budget quickly discovered that reality and planning don't always agree with each other! So, two years ago, I decided to take a chance.

What if I rented the house as a holiday home? What if I could use it as a small investment while still enjoying it with my family? What if I could somehow combine a full-time job, two children, family life, and a short-term rental business? Looking back now, it feels a little crazy.

But sometimes the best decisions start exactly that way. And then something magical happened. People entered my life. Wonderful people. Unexpected people. People who helped make this new adventure possible. The most important of them is undoubtedly Mrs. Anastasia. Officially, she is the person who helps us with cleaning and preparing the house. Unofficially? She is the person who keeps everything running. She is my eyes and ears in Aegina. My daily contact. My problem solver. My trusted partner. What started as a professional relationship slowly became something much more personal. She became part of our extended family. Because she genuinely cares. And that is rare. She doesn't simply clean the house and leave. She notices things. She suggests improvements. She shares ideas. She worries about our guests. She worries about the house. Sometimes I honestly feel she takes care of it as if it were her own. Can you imagine finding someone like that?

I certainly couldn't. Yet somehow, I got lucky. Every week we talk. What can we improve? What should we buy? What needs replacing? How can we make the experience even better for the next guests? In many ways, the house has become a constant project of small improvements.

And then there are the reviews. Oh, the reviews! Nobody prepared me for the emotional roller coaster of receiving guest feedback. Every single time a review arrives, I feel a little nervous. Maybe more than a little. Because for me, this isn't simply a rental property. It's my Dream House. The place where I have invested my time, energy, emotions, savings, and countless hours of planning. So naturally, I want everyone to love it as much as I do. But that's not always how it works. For me, it is perfect because it carries memories. For a guest, it is simply a house they have chosen for their holiday. And guests see things differently. Sometimes they notice things I would never have thought about.

A missing mirror. A few extra hangers in the wardrobe. A more protected parking space. A small convenience that would improve their stay. And honestly? I love those comments. Because they help us improve. They help us see the house through fresh eyes. They help us become better hosts. What is harder are the reviews that don't really explain the issue or offer anything constructive. Those are the ones that can hurt a little. Especially when you've worked so hard and genuinely care. I know it's part of business. I know that when you open your doors to guests, you also open yourself to feedback. And not all feedback will feel fair. But at the end of the day, I'm still human. I'm a mother. A professional balancing a full-time career. A wife. And someone trying to build a dream while creating something meaningful for others at the same time.

So yes, sometimes I feel disappointed. Sometimes I worry. Sometimes I take comments more personally than I should. But then I remind myself why I started. Not to be perfect. But to create something special. A place where families can relax. A place where children can make memories. A place where people can experience a little piece of the Aegina that I love so much. And every review, every suggestion, every comment, positive or negative, helps us get one step closer to that goal. So I'll keep doing what I've always done. Stay positive. Keep improving. Fix what can be fixed. Learn from every guest.

And keep reminding myself that building a dream never really ends. It simply evolves.

One guest, one review, and one improvement at a time. ❤️
